Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Less than 24 hours after a heartbreaking loss against the Winona State University Warriors, the Minot State University volleyball team was unable to salvage a split on the weekend dropping Saturday afternoon's match 3-0 to Upper Iowa University.
"It is hard to recover from losses like yesterday," head coach
Travis Ward said. "We didn't recover and it made it hard to play well today. We will grow from it and get back to work this week."
The Beavers dug themselves in a hole early getting down to a 6-0 lead but they found themselves back in the set down just 21-20. The Peacocks closed the match strongly, though, taking the set 25-21.
Momentum didn't carry into the second set for Upper Iowa as Minot State regrouped and got out to an early 5-1 lead in the second set. But the Peacocks fought back, tying the score at nine, and ultimately taking the second set 25-23 after more back and forth action throughout.
Upper Iowa went on to win the final set 25-21.
Jen Dixon (Sr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) led the way for the Beavers with 15 kills and nine digs.
Mallory Sall (Jr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) had 12 kills for Minot State.
Cindy Pelo's (Jr., L, Idaho Falls, Idaho) 20 digs were good for a game high among both teams.
The Beavers hit the road one more time this Tuesday when they take on Minnesota State-Moorhead before they finally come home to play Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday, Sept. 26 for their home opener.
