Box Score MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University volleyball team came up short in their final road game against Minnesota State University-Moorhead before the Beavers host their first home game of the season this coming Friday.
In a match decided in straight sets, the Beavers were just one point away from taking the first set of the evening in Moorhead, Minn. which may have changed the complexity of the match. The first set was tight throughout and the Beavers had a chance to close with a 26-25 advantage, but the Dragons battled back and took the following three points, ending the set 28-26.
Moorhead carried their momentum from the first set into the second as they got out to a 13-7 lead and never looked back. The Dragons went on to win the set 25-14.
While the third set proved to be much closer than the latter, Moorhead pulled away when the Beavers cut the Dragons lead to 21-20. MSU-Moorhead won the final set by a score of 25-21.
Mallory Sall (Jr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) did what she could in the match to try and help the Beavers break a two-game losing skid. The junior finished the match with 17 kills and a .469 hitting percentage.
Jen Dixon (Sr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) had the second-most kills on the team finishing the game with 11.
While the Beavers had a season-best .243 hitting percentage, they had no answer for a well-balanced Moorhead squad. Five Dragons finished the match with over eight kills.
Beavers' head coach
Travis Ward remains encouraged about the effort his team continues to display despite the loss.
"I'm proud of how we are playing," Ward said. "We are growing as players and will mature through the year consistently. I am excited to see who we are in two months."
With the loss, the Beavers move to 1-3 in the NSIC and 3-9 overall. The Dragons improve to 1-3 in the NSIC and 6-6 overall.
