MANKATO, MINN. - In three sets the Minot State University volleyball team fell to Minnesota State for its fifth road loss of the season.
The Beavers and Mavericks played a balanced game with sets of 25-27, 23-25 and 22-25 all in favor of Minnesot State. The Mavericks may have had four more kills than Minot State, but they also committed two more errors. The teams also were close in blocks with seven for Minot State and eight for Minnesota State.
"We fought back everytime," said head coach
Ben Kaszeta. "And everytime we seemed to fight back they either made a play or we made a mistake. I thought we fought hard on all of our points. We aren't conditioned enough mentally to be able to get to that point to be able to finish it."
Mistakes are something the Beavers have practiced hard to eliminate and with his teams performance Kaszeta saw some positives.
"Today that definitely happened," Kaszeta said about his team minimizing mistakes. "We had bad moments, but we didn't make as many mistakes at all."
Taylor Butters (OH, Jr., Spokane Valley, Wash.) led the team offensively with 11 kills and an attack percentage of .296. That marks Butters highest attack percentage since conference play began.
Freshman
Alison Fuata (OH, Hilo Hawiia) played well in the second set with four kills on seven attempts.
"She came in, filled her role and did a great job," Kaszta said. "She gets to come in and be a spark plug. Being a freshman she gets to come in and make plays."
Freshmen
Kelsey Dewulf (S, Huntley, Ill.) and
Logan Desorcy (L, St. Andrews, Manitoba) led the team with 35 assists and eight digs, respectively.
Minot State will play tomorrow, October 10 at No. 3 Concordia, St. Paul at 4 p.m.
