Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Minot State falls to Winona State

MINOT, N.D. – Two records were broken in the MSU Dome Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately the record Winona State achieved was more meaningful than the one the Minot State University women's basketball team did.

The Warriors were able to make 17 three-point shots against the Beavers for 51 of their 98 total points to win the game 98-57. That is a single-game record against MSU during their time as NCAA Division II members.

While the visitors were able to make their shots fall continuously, the home team struggled to make theirs despite making good decisions. Shot selection was one of the two things highlighted by head coach Sheila Green Gerding, even though her team only hit about 37 percent of their shots. The other highlight pointed out was the second record broken of the day.

Minot State was able to end the game with just four turnovers. That is the lowest amount of turnovers in a game for the Beavers since they had six in a game against Minnesota State Moorhead in December of 2011.

With 17 threes for the Warriors and playing from behind MSU was forced to take some shots from beyond the arc themselves. Hitting eight of their 20 attempts it marked the second most made three-pointers for the Beavers this season and the highest percentage of makes at 40 percent.

Madison Wald (G, Fr., Minot, N.D.) and Amanda Sansaver (G, Sr., Wolf Point, Mont.) both hit two of their three attempts from distance and totaled eight and six points, respectively. Alex Haley (G, Jr., Libertyville, Ill.) led the team with 10 points.

Minot State will play again on January 22 as they begin a four-game road stand at Minnesota Duluth. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
