Volleyball makes final homestand

MATCHUPS: Minot State host Wayne State and Augustana this weekend in its final two home games of the season. The Beavers will play the Wildcats on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. and Augustana on Saturday, November 5 at 6 p.m.

RECORDS: Minot State is 5-20 overall and 0-16 in NSIC play after falling in two games last week. Wayne State is 19-6 (10-6 NSIC) while Augustana is 22-4 (13-3 NSIC).    

COACHES CORNER: Minot State head coach Ben Kaszeta is in his second season at the front of the Beaver volleyball program. He is 8-44 overall with the Beavers and 20-88 as a head coach. Scott Kneifl is in his 12th season as the head coach at Wayne State. Kneifl has amassed a 279-95 record in his first 11 season. Dan Meske is in second season at Augustana. Meske led his team to an 18-11 record in his first season.

RANKINGS: Wayne State is the No. 8 ranked team in the nation while Augustana is the No. 7 team according to the October 31 AVCA Division II Coaches poll.

SERIES HISTORY: The Beavers are 0-5 against Wayne State and 0-7 against Augustana in series dating back to 2012 and 1997, respectively.

NOTING THE BEAVERS: Minot State added its fifth 100-kill player last week as Shae Pedersen recorded five kills against Winona State. The Beavers have yet to have a player record 200 kills, but Shelby Spuller may be the first to hit that mark as she has 187. Emily Falldorf is close with 178 as she, along with Spuller are the lone Beavers to record an average of two kills or more per set.

NOTING THE WILDCATS: Two Wayne State players earned NSIC Players of the Week this week in Alyssa Frauendorfer and Michaela Mestl. Frauendorfer, a 6-0 middle hitter, earned offensive honors as she averaged 5.11 kills while hitting .573 in two matches over the weekend. Mestl, a 5-6 outside hitter, earned defensive honors as she recorded 5.89 digs and 2.11 kills per set in the Wildcat road wins over the weekend.

NOTING THE VIKINGS: Augustana is in the AVCA top 10 for the sixth consecutive week as they have only lost four games this season, all to top 15 teams. The Vikings are currently on a four-game winning streak which includes a victory against the then No. 1 Minnesota Duluth.

DIGGING IN: Senior Cindy Pelo had a career weekend last week with 42 digs in two games. Digging 21 attack attempts in both games Pelo averaged 6.0 digs per set, including 7.0 in the Beavers game against the then No. 6 Winona State.
