DULUTH, Minn. -- Junior quarterback
Andy Jones rushed for 65 yards and threw for 48 more, but Minot State dropped a 37-0 decision to Minnesota Duluth in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game on Saturday at Malosky Stadium.
Jones carried the ball six times for 65 yards, which included a 36-yard run, and was 4-of-11 for 48 yards through the air to pace the Minot State offense.
Sophomore
Lavante Bushnell caught five passes for 59 yards, while
Lane Torgerson caught three passes for 39 yards to pace the MSU receivers. Torgerson also added 71 yards on four kickoff returns to finish with 110 all-purpose yards.
Minnesota Duluth, which improved to 6-2 overall with the win, pulled away from the Beavers with a 20-point second quarter.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when John Larson found Dominic Bonner from 15 yards and Minnesota Duluth tacked on a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead after the first quarter.
Minnesota Duluth extended the lead to 14-0 midway through the second quarter when Anthony Wood scored on an 8-yard run with 7:13 to play before halftime.
The Bulldogs extended the lead to 21-0 when Larson raced in from 51 yards out at the 2:49 mark of the second quarter.
Larson then connected with John Balts on a 22-yard scoring play with 13 seconds remaining in the second quarter to push the lead to 28-0.
Minnesota Duluth tacked on three field goals in the second half to finish the scoring.
Minot State, which dropped to 1-7 on the season, had 257 yards of total offense but turned the ball over four times.
Senior
Bryce Broome led the Beaver defense with 12 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery.Â
Kiante Goudeau and
Donnell Vercher each finished with six tackles for Minot State.
Minot State returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 28) when it visits Minnesota Crookston for an NSIC contest slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
