MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State volleyball team opened their 2017 season with two victories in the first day of the Sleep Inn & Suites Minot State Classic.
The Beavers edged South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in a five-set thriller in their first match of the day and swept Montana State Billings in the nightcap.
Match 1
Minot State opened their first game with a two-set advantage over South Dakota Mines. The Hardrockers bounced back to send the match into a fifth set.
The Beavers answered the Hardrocker rally, outscoring the Hardrockers 15-11 in the fifth set.
Shelby Spuller led the Minot State attack with 19 kills, followed by 12 kills from
Emily Falldorf.
Kelsey Dewulf paced the Beaver offense with 42 assists in the match.
Karli Koza and
Mekayla Gurley carried the defense for Minot State, recording 24 and 20 digs, respectively.
Match 2
The Beavers completed with night cap with a sweep over Montana State Billings. Minot State defeated the Yellow Jackets by scores of 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19.
Spuller led the balanced attack on the Beaver offense with 13 kills. Falldorf and
Brileigh Boyce posted nine kills while
Jeanne Brenner notched seven kills. Dewulf dished out 40 assists to carry the Beaver offense.
On the defensive side, Koza totaled 20 digs while Gurley tabbed 13 digs.
