BISMARCK, N.D. -- David Akibo scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but Mary used a late 7-0 run to defeat Minot State 65-58 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener for both schools on Saturday in the McDowell Activity Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Dorian Aluyi scored six points and Minot State overcame a slow start to trail 26-20 at halftime
• Minot State took its first lead of the game at the 8:35 mark of the second half when Max Cody converted two free throws
• David Akibo tied the game at 52-52 with 3:56 to play, but Mary responded with a 7-0 run to take control of the contest
• David Akibo led the Beavers with 12 points in the second half

BEAVER TRACKS

• David Akibo finished the game with a team-high 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds
• Dorian Aluyi scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor
• Max Cody also reached double figures for the Beavers with 13 points
• Max Cody added six assists and four rebounds
• Kody Dwyer had five rebounds and two points

TEAM NOTES

• Minot State dropped to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC
• Minot State limited Mary to just 3-of-24 shooting from the three-point line
• Minot State was outrebounded 36-27
