MINOT, N.D. -- The red-hot Minot State softball team will put its nine-game winning streak on the line this weekend as it hosts the third Bubble Invitational of the season this weekend in the Air-Supported Dome at Herb Parker Stadium.
Minot State, which is 10-2 on the season, will play four games over the two days of the tournament. Carroll and Minnesota Crookston will round out the field for the invitational, which will begin on Saturday (Feb. 24) with the Beavers hosting Carroll at 10 a.m.
The Beavers, who have scored 10 runs or more in five games, are hitting .377 as a team and have scored 110 runs. Minot State currently ranks fourth in the nation in doubles (32), fifth nationally in batting average (.377) and are eighth in the country in scoring (9.17).
The offense has been paced by senior
Tori Zimmermann who leads the team in hits, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, total bases and is tied for the team lead in doubles. Zimmermann is ranked second in the nation with 27 hits, 13th in Division II in batting average and is 24th nationally in RBIs with 16.
Isis Cabral and
Julia Suchan have also gotten off to fast starts for the Beavers. Cabral is batting .500 for the year and has 14 RBIs, while Suchan leads the team with 20 runs scored and is hitting .488 for the season.
Lauren Cowden (.421),
Kyla Larson (.415) and
Ashley Hill (.378) are also batting over .300 for the season.
Kylie Patrick, who ranks seventh in Division II in wins, leads the Beaver pitching staff as she is 6-1 with a 4.04 earned run average and has struck out 10 batters.
Laura Mendez is 4-1 on the year with a 5.01 earned run average and 13 strikeouts.
