Beavers Seek to Secure Tournament Spot on Final Weekend

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State softball team will seek to secure its spot in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament this weekend as it concludes the regular season on the road at Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul.

The Beavers will visit Minnesota State on Saturday (April 28) for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and finish the regular season with a doubleheader at Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday (April 29) beginning at 12 p.m.

Minot State, which is 23-20 overall and 10-12 in the NSIC, is currently in ninth place in the conference standings with the top 10 teams qualifying for the postseason. The Beavers control their own destiny as four wins this weekend would assure a trip to Sioux Falls, S.D., for the NSIC Tournament. The Beavers currently hold a one-game lead of Wayne State, Mary and Southwest Minnesota State. Wayne State finishes the season against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State, Mary will face Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State will square off against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.

Senior Tori Zimmermann continues her push for all-conference honors as she leads the Beavers with a .453 batting average and 42 RBIs. She also tops the team with nine home runs and 22 doubles. She leads the NSIC in doubles and ranks second in the conference in batting average and slugging percentage.

Junior Isis Cabral is ranked among the NSIC leaders in batting average, slugging percentage, triples and on-base percentage. She is ninth in the league with a .421 average, fourth with a .752 slugging percentage, tied for the conference lead with seven triples and is second in the NSIC with a .529 on-base percentage.

Sophomore Julia Suchan is the third Beaver with a batting average above .400 for the season as she is currently hitting .415 for the year. She is hitting .457 in the last 10 games and has four doubles, four RBIs and has scored seven runs. She also currently has a seven-game hitting streak and has reached base in 12 straight games.

Senior Kyla Larson has been one of the Beavers top players on the road this season as she is batting .563 with a homer and three RBIs in road contests this year. Larson ranks second on the team with 17 multiple-hit games and nine multiple-RBI games.

Ashley Hill (.319) and Lauren Cowden (.302) are also hitting above .300 for the Beavers on the year as Minot State is hitting .329 as a team.
