MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Shelby Spuller had 18 kills, Minnesota State Moorhead defeated Minot State 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener for both schools on Thursday in Nemzek Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Minnesota State Moorhead used a big run midway through the first set to pull away from the Beavers and post a 25-20 win
• Minnesota State Moorhead hit .333 in the second set and won 25-16 despite three kills from Shelby Spuller
• Shelby Spuller had 11 kills in the third set to keep the Beavers in it, but the Dragons held on for a 25-19 win

BEAVER TRACKS

• Shelby Spuller led the Beavers with 18 kills, which marked her sixth double-figure kill match of the season
• Emily Falldorf and Nicole Wondrasek each recorded four kills for the Beavers
• Kelsey Dewulf had 29 assists and three digs
• Hayley Swain led Minot State with three blocks
• Karli Koza extended her string of double-figure dig matches to nine straight as she led the Beavers with 11
