Clements powers Minot State

MINOT, N.D.Kari Clements scored a career-high 34 points including a game-tying layup to force overtime powering Minot State to a 93-87 overtime win over Minnesota State Mankato in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Friday at the Minot State Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Minot State outscored Minnesota State 10-4 in the overtime session to pull away for its first conference win of the season.
  • The Beavers forced overtime with a 25-24 advantage in the fourth quarter, hitting 9-of-14 shots in the quarter with Clements scoring 17 in the stanza.
  • MSU started the rally in the third quarter with a 25-point quarter, getting points from six different players.
  • Minnesota State built a four-point halftime lead behind a 23-point second quarter, hitting 10 of 18 from the field.
  • The teams were locked in a back and forth affair from the beginning, with the Mavericks edging Minot State 14-13 after the first quarter.
BEAVER TRACKS
  • Kari Clements's career night included 13-of-20 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 shooting on 3-pointers. She made four free throws and added five steals and three assists to her points.
  • Madison Wald scored 23 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and 6 for 10 from the free-throw line, finishing with six assists, four rebounds.
  • Haley Hildenbrand netted 11 points and pulled own a team-high eight rebounds for MSU.
  • Mariah Payne knocked down two 3-pointers to score 10 points and dished out six assists. 
TEAM NOTES
  • Minot State dished out 22 assists on 34 baskets, getting six assists apiece from Whitney Molina, Madison Wald and Mariah Payne.
  • After shooting just 33 percent in the first quarter, Minot State topped 60 percent in the second (61.5), third (62.5) and fourth (64.3) quarters.
  • Minot State finished with 16 turnovers, compared to 21 for Minnesota State as the Beavers picked up nine steals.
  • The Beavers improved to 6-7 overall and 1-6 in the NSIC, while the Mavericks dropped to 5-6 and 2-5 in conference play.
