Beaver Volleyball Defeats UMary in Straight Sets

(Minot, N.D.) -- The Minot State University Volleyball team was victorious on Tuesday night for the first time in the 2019 season. The Beavers defeated the University of Mary in three sets, 25-15, 25-12, and 25-16.

The first set of the match started well for the Beavers. The Beavers were able to win the first set of the match 25-15. The Beavers never lost control of the first set, scoring the first two points, then holding leads of 5-2, 11-5, 20-12 before winning it 25-15.

In set two the Beavers continued to perform well, leading 10-4 and then 20-11 before UMary called their third timeout of the match. The timeout did not change much as the Beavers would roll to five more points to seal the second set, winning it 25-12.

In the third set, the Beavers started a bit slower, up 4-3 before a break due to a meeting between the officials. After that, however, the Beavers would go on an 8-2 run to take a 12-5 lead. The next few points would go back and forth, with the Beavers leading 15-8 before a mini UMary run would make it 18-13. The Beavers would answer with two straight points before a UMary timeout. The Beavers would continue their run going up 22-13 prior to UMary scoring three consecutive points to shrink the lead to 22-16 before the Beavers took the last three points, winning the set 25-16, and taking the match in three sets.

Beaver Leaders:
Shelby Spuller led the Beavers with 16 kills in the match • Emily Falldorf was also big especially early on, contributing eight kills of her own • Mackenzie Froehlich led the team with 34 assists • Karli Koza continued her strong play this season defensively, leading the team with 22 digs.
