Beaver Volleyball Fights in Loss to Minnesota State

(Minot, N.D.) – On Saturday, the Beavers battled but fell in three sets to Minnesota State.

 
In the first set, the Beavers and Mavericks battled back and forth. With the score at 15-13, Minnesota state would run off five of the next six points leading to a timeout by the Beaver with them trailing 20-14. Following the timeout, the Beavers would score two points, with Minnesota State answering with two points of their own to give them a 22-16 lead. The Beavers would gain some momentum scoring five of the next six points to decrease the Maverick lead to 23-21. It would not be enough, however, as Minnesota State would score back to back points to take the first set 25-21.

 
The second set started with Minnesota State scoring five of the first six points before a kill by Shelby Spuller made the score 5-2 with Minnesota State leading. With the score 8-4, the Beavers would score two straight points, shrinking the Maverick lead to 8-6. The two teams would battle throughout the next few points. With Minnesota State leading 15-10, the Beavers would score a point on a kill by Mackenzie Froehlich. The Beavers, however, would be forced into using a timeout, down 17-11. Immediately following the timeout, the Beavers came out motivated, scoring back to back points shrinking the deficit to 17-13. The Beavers would battle throughout the remainder of the set, with both teams answering each other. Down 20-15, the Beavers would score consecutive points to narrow the deficit to 20-17. Minnesota State would take the next three points. The Beavers would not give up, however, scoring three straight, shrinking the lead to 23-20. The Mavericks would score two of the next three points to take a two-set lead with the score of set two 25-21.

 
In the third set the two teams would battle back and forth throughout. With the Beavers down 17-15 in the third set, the Mavericks would score three straight points to take a 20-15 lead. Minot State would not be done there; however, as a kill from Kayla Verity would wake the score 21-16. The Mavericks would take the set after a 4-0 run allowed them to take the third set 25-16.
