Beaver Volleyball Takes Down UMary in Three

(Bismarck, N.D.) -- On Halloween night, the Minot State University volleyball team traveled to Bismarck, N.D. to take on UMary and won in three sets 25-15, 25-23, 25-12.  
 
In the first set, Minot State took the early 5-3 lead with two kills coming from senior Emily Falldorf. The Beavers went on a 3-0 run to increase the lead to 8-3. Both teams went on runs, but the opposite side would always answer back with a run of their own. With the score at 18-12, Minot State, the Beavers went on a 4-0 run with four straight attack errors from UMary, giving the Beavers a 22-12 lead. Minot State went on to win the first set 25-15.  
 
The Marauders started strong in the second set, taking a 4-0 lead. Falldorf would record a kill to get the Beavers on the board. Play continued, and UMary still had the lead at 8-4. Minot State went on a 4-0 run led by freshman Amarrie Welton with two kills and junior libero Karli Koza with a pair of service aces to even up the score at 8-8. UMary was not fazed and answered back with a 3-0 run of their own to give the Mauraders an 11-8 lead. Both teams continued to battle and answered each other. UMary took a 19-18 lead. The Beavers went on a 4-0 run led by kills from Froehlich and senior outside hitter Shelby Spuller. The run helped the Beavers take the first lead of the set 22-21. Each team scored two more times, leading to the score being tied at 23. The Beavers went on to score back to back to take the second set thanks to a kill from Spuller and a service ace from Froehlich. The Beavers won the second set 25-23.   
 
The Beavers took the early 6-3 lead at the beginning of the third set due to strong play from Falldorf and Mackenzie Froehlich. With the Beaver lead at 8-5, they would expand the lead, going on a 4-0 run. Led by Swain and Falldorf, the Beavers took a commanding 15-5 lead. The set continued to play out where UMary and Minot State were going back and forth in scoring. At 22-16, Minot State had the lead and went on a 3-0 run to seal the deal and win the set 25-12, and the match 3-0. Koza ended the third set with a service ace.
