Beaver Men's Basketball Continues Sizzling Start, Win Fourth Straight

(Minot, N.D.) -- The Beaver Men's Basketball team continued their hot start to the season with their first victory over Montana State University Billings. With the win, the Beavers moved to 1-7 against the Yellowjackets, but more importantly, moved to 4-0 on the young season.
 
In the first half, neither team was able to separate itself by a large margin, with the most significant lead for the Beavers at eight points on two separate occasions, and the largest Yellowjacket lead at seven points.
 
The Beavers started the second half strong with Stephane Manzi hitting back to back three's to take a 42-34 lead. Kyle Beisch would also hit one on the next possession to cap off a 9-0 run. Montana State Billings would follow up with a three of their own, but the Beavers would stretch the lead back out to ten at 47-37 after a pair of Duane Goodman free throws. With just under 15 minutes to go, the Yellowjackets hit back to back threes to cut the lead to four. They would even the game up with 11:48 to go at 51-51. The Beavers would continue to show their grit, this time outscoring Montana State Billings 11-4 over the next three minutes. At the eight-minute media timeout, the Beavers held a 62-55 lead. Following that timeout, the Beavers would hit back to back three-point shots on their first two possessions, again expanding the lead to double digits. The Beavers would keep distance between themselves and the Yellowjackets throughout the remainder of the game. First, Montana State Billings would cut the lead to five, but then the Beavers would take control of the game, scoring 11 unanswered to take a 79-63 lead with three minutes to go. Minot State would hold the Yellowjackets at bay and take an 83-74 win.
 
Beaver Tracks:
Kyle Beisch scored 21 points on 7-19 shooting, including 5 of 12 from three. He also had a double-double, as he led the team with 10 rebounds • Stephane Manzi had his best game in a Beaver Uniform, scoring 19 points, and adding seven rebounds • Max Cody continued to be a factor in scoring and distributing, posting a 14, and seven line • Aleksa Cucovic also had a strong game, hitting 3 of 4 three-pointers.
 
Game Notes:
The Beavers shot a scolding 56% in the second half, and 46.6% over the game…Minot State was also on fire from three, hitting 8-11 (72.73%) in the second half and 15-30 for the game…The Beavers shot 73.7% from the free-throw line on 19 attempts…The Beavers outrebounded Montana State Billings 38-32.
