Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Strand's Double-Double Sets Tone for Women's Basketball Against YCC

(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State women's basketball team earned their third win of the season in blowout fashion earlier today.

The Beaver women overcame a very slow start against the visiting Centurions of Yellowstone Christian College and pulled away in the second half to win 85-38.

The Centurions led 11-9 towards the end of the first quarter when the Beavers started their run. YCC could not handle the Beavers' obvious size advantage inside.

For Minot State, Reina Strand's career night led the way as the senior forward posted her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead MSU in both categories. Breianna Smestad and Calli Delsman also cracked double figures in scoring with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Mollie Wilson was second-best on the boards with nine. Smestad, along with Bethany Theodore, made four assists to lead the team.

For YCC, Mashaya Alden had a team-high 14 points and Nia Johnson led the way with six rebounds.

The Beavers are now 2-1 on the season with one more non-conference game to play. Minot State will host Valley City State on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
