(Bethany, OK.) -- The Minot State women's basketball team lost the season opener on the road vs. Southern Nazarene on Friday night.  

Minot State started with the early 4-3 lead thanks to a jump shot and lay-up from sophomore forward Anna Counts. The Crimson Storm went on a 15-0 run and ended the first quarter leading 21-5.  
 
In the second quarter, both teams were evenly matched as the Beavers scored 15 points, and Southern Nazarene scored 16 points. Junior guard Bethany Theodore led the team with five points in the quarter. She made the opening three-pointer and a pair of free throws. During the quarter, Counts scored a lay-up after being fouled at the rim and made the following free throw. The Beavers ended the quarter with a pair of free throws from senior forward Reina Strand, ending the half down 37-20.

Throughout the third quarter, the Crimson Storm continued to hold the lead and not let Minot State climb back into the game. The Beavers were outscored 24-18. Senior guard Mariah Payne (5) and Delsman led the team in scoring as they were down 61-38 at the end of the third quarter.  

The Beavers were outscored 16-8 in the fourth quarter. Freshman Breianna Smestad scored her first collegiate point in the fourth quarter. Smestad ended the game with four points. The Beavers fell 77-46.
