(Searcy, Ark.) --Â The Minot State University men's basketball team was able to continue their string of good play to begin the season. After winning yesterday, they were victorious again today over Ouachita Baptist University.
Â
In the first half, the Beavers started slowly, trailing 9-0 out of the gates. The Beavers would stop the bleeding quickly, hitting three's on two consecutive possessions and going on a run of 13-6 to cut the Ouachita Baptist lead to 15-13. After that, both teams would go back and forth with neither team expanding the lead beyond a possession until Ouachita Baptist would extend it to 21-16, and 29-22 before the Beavers would end the first half on a 6-0 run to cut the margin to 29-28.
Â
In the second half, both teams would again battle for the lead, with the Tigers seemingly being able to keep the Beavers at arm's reach. The Tigers would go on an 8-0 run to take a 42-33 lead before the Beavers would battle back once again after
Kyle Beisch and
Max Cody would score on back to back possessions following a timeout by head coach
Matt Murken. With the Tigers leading 44-39, the Beavers would put together the most important run of the game, scoring nine unanswered points to take their first lead of the game. The Beavers were up 48-44 before the Tigers would answer with seven straight to retake the lead 50-48. With just under five minutes to go and the game tied at 50, the two teams would trade buckets and the lead. Neither team was able to get much breathing room until
Max Cody hit a free throw, and
Kody Dwyer scored off an offensive rebound on the missed second free throw to take a 61-58 lead with 30 seconds to go. From there, it was up to whether the Beavers could make their free throws, and they would deliver, hitting five of their final six to secure the 66-62 victory.Â
