Beaver Men's Basketball Falls in Heartbreaker

(MINOT, N.D) -- The Minot State men's basketball team fell in a second straight close contest, falling in a back and forth game with 15 lead changes. 

Minot State started the first half in a bit of a funk as MSU Moorhead raced out to an 8-0 lead, which led to an early timeout by head coach Matt Murken. Out of the timeout, the Beavers' play improved significantly. The Beavers outscored the Dragons 12-6 over the next six minutes to pull within two points, 14-12. MSU Moorhead would answer quickly, going on a 10-4 run to go up 24-14 with 8:04 remaining in the first half. Over the next three minutes, the Beavers would battle back again, cutting the lead to 26-21. The teams would fight over the next couple minutes with the Beavers cutting the deficit to 28-26 with just over three minutes to play. The Beavers would continue to finish the half strongly with five straight points to take a 33-30 lead. The Dragons would tie it up on the next possession and be immediately followed by a three from Max Cody to give the Beavers a 36-33 lead and the last possession of the first half. Cody would hit a jumper just before the buzzer to take a 38-33 lead into the locker room.

MSU Moorhead was able to battle back and tie the game early in the second half before an up-and-under move for two and a basket by Cody to give the Beavers a 42-38 lead. The Dragons would outscore the Beavers 9-2 to retake the lead 47-44 with 14 minutes to play before a Nibra White three would tie the game. MSU Moorhead would answer with a three of their own to again retake the lead. The Beavers would continue the trend, scoring eight unanswered, giving Minot State a 55-50 lead with 11:37 to play. The back and forth runs would continue with MSU Moorhead scoring nine straight for the 16th lead change of the game. The teams would continue to battle back and forth, going into a timeout with 8:25 left the Dragons held a 63-59 lead. The Beavers would tie the game on a Trevor Rothstein three. The two teams would continue to go back and forth. A Beisch basket would tie up the game with 4:07 to play. Going into the last possession, the Beavers trailed by three. Beisch and Trevor Rothstein had shots hit off the rim. 

The Beavers were led in scoring by Kyle Beisch and Max Cody with 26 and 22 points. Nibra White was also in double figures, scoring 14. Trevor Rothstein and Nibra White each had five rebounds, while Cody led the team in assists with seven.
