LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Beavers bounced back from two day one losses and ran cancellations on day two, to defeat California State University Monterey Bay 3-2 in the Desert Stinger Tournament matchup on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Minot State started out to an early lead scoring two runs in the first inning off a triple to left center by Mercer and Suchan double to score the run. Suchan advanced to third on a single by Cowden and Robbins hit the batter in with a single to center field.
CSU Monterey Bay was scoreless until the fourth when Stanley reached to first on a throwing error and the Otters put in a pinch runner for Stanley. Villagrana reached on a fielder's choice and batted in the first run for the Otters. The Otters scored one in the fifth to tie the game on a single by Stanley.
Minot State was scoreless after the first inning for the remainder of regulation and scored one in the eighth to win the game. Suchan was placed on second, Gonzalez put down the sacrifice bunt, advancing Suchan to third. Karlee Couglin lined out to left field scoring Suchan for the Beavers win.
Maggie Mercer was 2-4 on the day and scored one run. Junior,
Julia Suchan was 1-4 on the day and helped drive in one of the three runs.
Karlee Coughlin and
Zoya Robbins drove in the other two runs to lift the Beavers over the Otters.
Freshman,
Zoya Robbins pitched all eight innings for the Beavers, allowing only five hits and two runs.
The Beavers return to action for the first Air-Supported Dome Invitational in the Minot State Bubble on Feb. 9-10 facing the University of Minnesota Crookston and Black Hills State University.
