Softball Falls in Late Night Battle at NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Minot State softball team wrapped up its six-game road swing as the Beavers were on the losing end of a sweep in a doubleheader that began on Tuesday night and ended early Wednesday morning in Aberdeen, S.D.

Minot State drops to 21-16 overall on the season and 10-10 in NSIC games.
 
Game One: Northern State 7, Minot State 6
How It Happened
  • Lauren Cowden opened the second inning with a double and later came around to score to give the Beavers the early 1-0 lead.
  • Northern State responded with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the second to grab a 3-1 lead.
  • Rianna Aasen singled in the fifth inning before scoring on a fielder's choice hit by Kiera Shwaluk to trim the deficit in half, 3-2.
  • The Wolves added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch the lead to 7-2.
  • Rebekkah Withouse and Julia Suchan began the seventh inning with back-to-back singles before scoring on Cowden's two-RBI double to left center.
  • Karlee Coughlin notched a two-RBI single to left field and advanced to second on the play on a fielding error to cut the NSU lead down to one, 7-6.

  • Gonzalez scored on Suchan's sacrifice fly to right field after reaching on an NSU throwing error.
  • The Wolves responded with six runs on eight hits to extend the lead to 8-2 over Minot State.
  • Gonzalez and Aasen tallied RBI singles in the fifth to cut into the NSU lead and making it an 8-4 game.
  • Northern State got one of the runs back in the fifth inning before Minot State added a run in the sixth when Gonzalez drew a walk with the bases loaded.
