(MINOT, N.D.) -- After a rocky 0-4 start, the Minot State University volleyball team plans to turn things around this upcoming weekend.
The Beavers will be traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the Mountain Lion Invitational beginning on Sept. 13, which will consist of four matches.
To kick off the tournament, the Beavers will face the Colorado School of Mines, Friday at noon. The Orediggers are coming off a weekend in which they hosted the Oredigger Volleyball Classic and went 3-1 on the weekend. Leading the Colorado School of Mines is senior middle blocker Abby Tiesman, who leads the team in kills (49) and sets(14).
Later on that day, the Beavers will battle against the undefeated Angelo State Rams at 6:00 p.m. The Rams are having a successful season having lost just two sets in their five matches. Senior outside hitter Haley Coulter is the front runner for the team in service aces with a total of ten on the year. The match against Angelo State will conclude the first day of the invitational for the Beavers.
On the second and last day of the invitational, Minot State will start the day, taking on the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. This past weekend the Lions played in a tournament in Rolla, Mo where they finished 3-1.
The Beavers will end their weekend facing the host of the invitational, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions are currently sitting at 1-3 after competing in the Orediggers Classic. Leading the way for the Mountain Lions is a young core with redshirt sophomore libero Jordyn Kinsey with 71 kills and freshman setter Emily Ettel with 146 assists.
The Beavers look to bounce back after a 0-4 tournament last weekend. They are led by juniors, Mackenzie Froehlich, Karli Koza, and senior Shelby Spuller.
