Box Score (Minot, ND.) -- Senior outside hitter, Shelby Spuller breaks the 1,000 kill mark against the University of Sioux Falls in the home opener and first conference game of the season.
The Beavers could not come up with the victory against the 6-2 Cougars in conference play tonight. The match ended with the Cougars winning in straight sets 3-0.
In the first set, the Beavers lost 25-19. The Cougars went on many runs with the Beavers not answering back with runs of their own. Sioux Falls contributed 16 kills with only three errors in 36 total attempts.
In the second set, the Beavers battled with the Cougars throughout but were not able to come out on top as Sioux Falls took the set 25-20. The set consisted of four lead changes and eight ties.
The third set did not go the way Minot State planned as the Cougars ran away with the set, winning it 25-9 to end the match. Sioux Falls dominated the kill column by doubling up on Minot, 13-6. Krista Goerger, the junior setter for the Cougars, led the match with 35 assists and two blocks.
Junior libero Karli Koza supported the defense for the Beavers with 11 digs to go along with junior defensive specialist Quinn Billaney with five digs of her own.
On the offensive side junior setter, Mackenzie Froehlich produced 24 assists for the Beavers and continues to the lead the team in this column with 208 on the season. Spuller ended the match with seven kills and four digs.
The Beavers will have a chance to right the ship quickly, as they are back in action tomorrow, 9/21 at 2:00 p.m. against Southwest Minnesota State University.
