(Sioux Falls, S.D.) -- The Minot State University Volleyball team battled the entire match but fell three sets to one against a good opponent in Augustana University.
Augustana University came into the match 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. They played Minot State rival UMary last night and won in three straight sets.
In the first set, Augustana went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. The Beavers fought back to even up the score late in the set at 21-21. The Beavers were able to force Augustana into a pair of errors, taking a 24-23 lead. Senior Jeanne Brenner had four kills in this set, and the set winning kill to take the first set for the Beavers 25-23. Senior Shelby Spuller also helped out with five kills of her own.
In the second set, the Beavers came out strong to take a 9-6 lead. The Vikings would turn it on, however, going on a 9-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Beavers would fight back thanks to some strong play; they would narrow the Viking lead to 19-17. The Vikings would retake control, going on a 4-0 run to help close the set 25-18.
Throughout the third set, the Vikings and Beavers were going back and forth, answering each other by putting points on the board. Midway through the set, the Vikings led 15-14. They would proceed to end the set on a 10-2 run.
The Vikings controlled the fourth set, going on multiple runs. This time, the Beavers would not be able to answer back. Augustana won the fourth set 25-14 and ended the match, winning 3-1.

The Beavers next three matches will be at home. Beaver Volleyball will face off with UMary on Oct.1 at 6:00 p.m., St. Cloud State on Oct. 4 at 5:00 p.m. and Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 5 at 12:00 p.m.
