(DULUTH, MINN.) -- Minot State Football opened the season on Thursday night against the University of Minnesota-Duluth in a game that was going to be a tough one from the getgo. After one contested quarter Minnesota-Duluth ran away with the game, scoring 37 unanswered points in quarters two, three, and four to come away with the 52-7 win.
The game was not without highlights for Minot State, however as they produced one of the more exciting plays you will see in any level of college football this season. Cory Carignan at first muffed the kick return only to proceed to run back into the end zone and grab it, narrowly avoiding a safety by breaking two tackles, then pushing it outside and getting a monster block from Ali Mohamed on the way to a 104-yard kick return for the ages.

The excitement was brief but gives a window into more of what you can expect from an improved Beaver football team during the 2019 season.
Ali Mohamed not only delivered the bone-crushing block mentioned earlier but also was very efficient on the ground carrying the ball 14 times and gaining 89 yards on the ground.
GAME NOTES
The Beavers were outgained in total yards, rushing yards, and passing yards...Junior linebacker Derek Wax led the defense, recording seven total tackles, five of them being solo...the Beaver defense forced their first turnover of the season in the second quarter when senior linebacker Geordie McDougall intercepted a pass.
