(MIAMI, Ohio) -- The Minot State women's hockey team continued its excellent play coming out of the long break today. After last night, defeating the third-ranked team in the nation, this afternoon, they triumphed over the ninth-ranked team in the country.
 
The Beavers did not start the game strong, allowing an early RedHawk goal to go down 1-0 with 17:13 remaining in the first period. Miami (OH) would continue to put on the pressure over the next several minutes, earning two power plays. The Beavers penalty kill unit would do a phenomenal job; however, not allowing a goal and few opportunities. The Beavers would generate some openings on a power play of their own, and then a scoring chance would be turned away from Story Navrot. Going into the second period, the Beavers trailed 1-0.
 
Early on in the second period, the Beavers would continue their momentum from the end of the first, earning a power play. Mackenzie Heide would score early on in the power play to even up the game at 1-1. The tie would not last long as Miami (OH) would score on a shot from the point through traffic to take back the lead 2-1. With just under eleven minutes to play in the second period, the Beavers would even it up once again. This time, Haley Wickham would get a shot by the goaltender just under the bar. That would open the flood gates for the Minot State offense as Alisha O'Hara and Jensen Smigelsky scored in the last six minutes to open a 4-2 lead going into the third period.
 
In the third, the Beavers were mostly able to play defensively and maintain the lead. That is until Miami (OH) got one back with just over six minutes remaining to play to cut the Beaver lead to 4-3. There were some tense moments in the final minutes, but Sami Jo Henry would ice it with an empty-netter to seal it with just over a minute to play, and the Beavers would go on to pick up the 5-3 victory.
