(MANKATO, MINN.) – The Minot State women's basketball team began the new year with a loss on the road at Minnesota State this evening. The Mavericks dominated from start to finish on their way to an 85-54 victory.
The Beavers were led in scoring by
Haley Hildenbrand with 12 points followed by
Bethany Theodore with 10. Hildenbrand completed a double-double with 14 rebounds to lead the Beavers.
Anna Counts added eight boards while
Mollie Wilson snagged seven.
Mariah Payne and
Danielle Rizzari each had a team-high three assists. Hildenbrand blocked one shot and Theodore had two steals to pace the squad in those categories. The Beavers struggled offensively with only one made three and a sloppy 39 turnovers in the game.
The Mavericks capitalized off of the Beaver errors with 12 points off turnovers. Three Minnesota State women ended with double-digit points including Taylor Drost with 14, Kirstin Klitzke with 11, and Tayla Suttley with 10. Brooke Tonsfeldt had a team-best nine rebounds. Stuttley and Maddy Olson each recorded five assists to lead the Mavericks. Freshman Joey Batt had a game-high four steals. The Mavericks' offense was running on all cylinders with 10 made threes and roughly 40% shooting from the field.
The loss for the Beavers moved their record to 3-8 overall and 0-7 in NSIC play. Minnesota State now sits at 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC.
Minot State will continue their search for conference win number one this season when they lace it up tomorrow afternoon in St. Paul. The Beavers will visit the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul at 3:30 pm on Saturday, Jan. 4.
