(ST. PAUL, MINN.) – The Minot State women's basketball team suffered another loss this afternoon to wrap up their first road trip of the new year.
The Beavers visited Concordia University of St. Paul and were defeated 84-74 despite a valiant comeback effort in the second half.
Minot State exploded in the third quarter for 29 points to start the climb back into the game but could not get over the hump and take the lead in the fourth period.
The Beavers were led by guard
Mariah Payne with 35 points on the day.
Bethany Theodore also added 14.
Calli Delsman had a pedestrian day scoring the basketball but grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Payne also led the Beavers in assists with four. Minot State's women shot 7-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc, their best shooting performance of the season, to keep the game close in the second half. Minot State also got a boost from their reserves as the Beaver bench outscored CSP's back-ups 23-9.
The Golden Bears had four different players in double-figures and two over 20 points. Sidney Wentland and Ayla Lemke each scored 21 points while Danielle Schaub added 16 and Riley Wheatcraft added 13. Lemke and Wheatcraft led the Golden Bears on the glass with eight rebounds each. Wheatcraft also snagged four steals. Sophomore guard Meghan DuBois was feeling generous with five assists.
With the win, Concordia-St. Paul improved to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in league competition. Minot State dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-8 in the NSIC.
The Beavers will be back in action at home next weekend when St. Cloud State (Friday, Jan. 10) and Minnesota Duluth (Saturday, Jan. 11) come to town.
