Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Beaver Men Win Fourth Straight

(SIOUX FALLS, S.D.) – The Minot State men's basketball team battled throughout the game against Augustana. It was close the entire way through. However, the Beavers took their first lead midway through the second half and did not allow the Vikings to recapture it. The Beavers won their fourth straight at the pentagon.

It was apparent early on that this one would be a dog fight between the two squads. Augustana would get out to an early five-point lead and would hold onto that for the majority of the first half, stretching it to eight points on two occasions. With 7:45 remaining in the first half, the Beavers would score five straight points, cutting the Viking lead to 29-26. Augustana would answer with five of their own stretching it right back to an eight-point lead. With 2:14 remaining, the Beavers would fight back with three-pointers on three straight possessions from Duane Goodman, Trevor Rothstein, and Sam Ohlrich to tie the game at 39. Going into the half, after a basket by Augustana, the Beavers trailed 41-39.

The second half would continue to be a battle. First, Augustana would get out to an early four-point lead, then trailing 49-46 the Beavers would embark on an 8-0 run, taking their first lead of the game at 54-49. From there, the Beaver offense was tough to stop, with Trevor Rothstein, Kobe Jackson, Max Cody, and Kyle Beisch all hitting big shots to expand the lead to 65-58. The Vikings would come back with an 8-0 run of their own to briefly retake the lead before a converted and-1 by Cody to go into the under-five minute media timeout with the Beavers leading 68-66. Out of that timeout, Ohlrich would cash in on a pair of free throws followed by a Cody jumper to bring a 72-67 lead into a Minot State timeout. A Beisch three-pointer would again give the Beavers a seven-point edge before the Vikings would battle back. Trailing 77-70, Augustana would cut the Minot State lead to one possession, forcing the Beavers into having to hit their free throws. Down the stretch, Minot State hit five of six free throws to seal an 82-80 win.

Five players were vital in the scoring column for the Beavers with Max Cody, Kyle Beisch, Sam Ohlrich, and Trevor Rothstein, and Kody Dwyer scoring 22, 18, 12, 11, and 10 points respectively. Cody continues to distribute the ball at a high level, tallying eight assists. Cody has tallied 7+ assists in four of the last five games. The Beavers were led on the glass by Rothstein, grabbing six.
