Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Minot State Men's Basketball Unable to Extend Winning Streak to Five

(Wayne, Neb.) – The Beaver men's basketball team was not able to extend its winning streak to five, as the last few minutes of the first half cost them in a 71-62 loss.

From the beginning of the first half through the majority of that half, it seemed like this would be just another NSIC dogfight for Minot State. The game started with both teams trading baskets for the first several minutes. At the five-minute media timeout, the Beavers held a 15-12 lead, and at the ten-minute media timeout, the two teams would be tied at 19. Coming out of that timeout, Wayne State would score five straight before Minot State would answer back by tying it up at 24. It would be back and forth that way much of the remainder of the half, that is, until Wayne State outscored the Beavers 10-0 in the last 2:51 to head into the locker room with the Wildcats leading 41-31.

Wayne State continued their momentum early in the second half, going up by 15 on two separate occasions early in the half. Down 12, Minot State would cut back into the deficit due to a 6-0 run. Unfortunately, that was the closest the Beavers would get as the Wildcats would extend the lead back to 12 after a 6-0 run of their own. The Beavers would not get much closer throughout the remainder of the game, eventually falling 71-62.

The Beavers were led by Kyle Beisch, Kody Dwyer, and Trevor Rothstein. The trio scored 21, 14, and 11 points. Max Cody continued his string of distribution, recording his fifth game out of six with seven or more assists by having seven dimes. Rothstein, Cody, and Sam Ohlrich all recorded five rebounds in the contest.
