Beaver Women's Basketball Falls Short on Senior Night

(MINOT, N.D.) – Minot State would not be able to move into the sixth spot in the NSIC North, falling to Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon.
 
The first minute of the first quarter started about as good as you ask for Minot State. MSU was able to get out to a 7-0 lead. Bemidji State would bounce back, hitting a three to cut the deficit to 9-6. Bemidji State would continue to gather momentum, trailing 11-10 at the five-minute media timeout and then hitting a three-pointer to take their first lead of the game 13-11. Bemidji State would end the quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 22-16 lead.
 
Bemidji State would continue the momentum early in the second quarter, hitting back-to-back threes. With 6:04 to play, Minot State was facing significant foul trouble as all three of Reina Stand, Haley Hildenbrand, and Anna Counts had three fouls each. Bemidji State would hit two from the line expanding their run to 20-3 and lead to 34-18. Heading into the media timeout, Minot State had scored four straight, cutting the lead to 36-22 with 4:07 to play in the first half. Out of the timeout, Bemidji State would regain the momentum outscoring the Beavers 6-2, taking a 44-25 lead. Going into the half Bemidji State led 47-27. After Minot State had a 15-13 lead, BSU went on a 34-12 run to close out the half.  
 
Minot State had a lot of work ahead of them to close the gap, but the second half started well with a 6-0 run cutting the deficit to 14, 47-33. Minot State would continue to chip away. A Bethany Theodore three-point play would cut the Bemidji State lead to 49-36. At the five-minute media timeout, Bemidji State held a 54-38 lead. Neither team was able to get much offense going in the third quarter, and Bemidji State would stave off the early Minot State run and head into the fourth quarter with a 61-41 lead.
 
The fourth quarter did not change much as Bemidji State would continue to control the game and coast. At the five-minute media timeout, Bemidji State held a 74-46 lead. In the end, Minot State fell 83-54.
 
Minot State was led by Mariah Payne, scoring 20 points. Bethany Theodore led the team with four assists in addition to her 13 points. Mollie Wilson led the team with seven rebounds.
