(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State men's basketball team lost a close one on senior night, falling to Bemidji State.
Early on in the first quarter, Minot State started slowly, down 7-2 before Kody Dwyer scored. Going into the first media timeout, Minot State trailed 7-4. Kyle Beisch hit a jumper coming out of the timeout, briefly cutting the deficit to one. The Minot State offense would stall over the next three minutes, now trailing 14-6 after a Bemidji State 7-0 run with 11:50 to play in the first half. A Beisch three, then a bucket by Dwyer would cut the Bemidji State lead to 16-13 going into the ten-minute media timeout. The Beaver run would continue and get up to ten unanswered with a Max Cody three-pointer giving Minot State its first lead at 18-16. A timeout was called at 7:21 with the two teams tied at 20. At the five-minute media timeout Minot State held a 25-22 lead. The two teams continued to go back and forth, closing the first half with Minot State leading 34-31.
The second half started the way the first half went, with both teams answering each other basket for basket. At the 15-minute media timeout, Bemidji State led 44-42. The offenses would start to slow over the next few minutes, and Bemidji State continued to lead by two at the next media timeout, 49-47. A Beisch three-point play would give him 28 on the night and cut the Bemidji State lead to one, 54-53. A couple of possessions later, a
Sam Ohlrich layup would tie the game at 57. That score would remain the same for the last media timeout with 4:14 to play. Down four, Cody would hit a three cutting it to one but was answered by Ja Morgon from Bemidji State. Another three by
Trevor Rothstein moments later would reduce it to one. Bemidji State would answer with a pair of free throws followed by an empty possession going into a timeout with 42 seconds remaining. Another couple of free throws gave Bemidji State a 68-63 lead. Minot State would not be able to get back into the game with Bemidji State hitting their free throws, Minot State would fall 73-65.
Kyle Beisch led Minot State with 30 points as he tied his career-high.
Trevor Rothstein and
Kody Dwyer added 14 and 10 points.
Max Cody led the team with eight assists.
Kody Dwyer had nine rebounds.
