BEMIDJI, MINN. -- The Minot State women's basketball team went into halftime beating Bemidji State 38-35, but could not hang on in the second half and fell 77-63 to the Beavers on the road Friday.

The Beavers (2-5, 2-3) had three players score in double figures, led by
Amber Stevahn, who had 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Lucy Chapman added 13 points and three steals and
Anna Counts chipped in as well with 10 points.

Led by Stevahn's three offensive rebounds, Minot State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 16 second chance points.

Minot State did a great job disrupting Bemidji State shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Stevahn's two rejections led the way individually for the Beavers.

How It Happened
Minot State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 19-16.

Minot State then cut the BSU lead to 33-31 before going on a 5-0 run to take a 36-33 lead. The Beavers kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 38-35 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 22 points close to the basket.

Minot State then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Beavers 62-50 entering the fourth. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.

Bemidji State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 67-52 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Stevahn's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 67-58 with 7:18 to go in the contest. Bemidji State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-63. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 13 points in the paint.
