BEMIDJI, MINN. --
Anna Counts secured a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but the Minot State women's basketball team fell to the Bemidji State Beavers 70-61 on the road Saturday.
The Beavers (2-6, 2-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Counts, who put together a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Bethany Theodore tacked on 12 points and four steals and
Calli Delsman added eight points and seven rebounds.
Minot State out-rebounded Bemidji State 40-36 in Saturday's game, led by Counts' 11 boards. The Beavers also grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and scored 15 second chance points.
Minot State did a great job disrupting Bemidji State shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Counts' two rejections led the way individually for the Beavers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-0, Minot State went on a 10-0 run with 6:22 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Delsman, to take a 10-9 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 17-15.
Bemidji State kept adding to that advantage, building a 36-23 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run to narrow its deficit to 36-29. Bemidji State responded and expanded its lead, leaving the visiting Beavers trailing 39-31 heading into halftime.
Bemidji State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 40-31 advantage before Minot State went on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from
Amber Stevahn, to grab a 41-40 lead with 5:45 to go in the third. Bemidji State responded to seize a 50-47 lead entering the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 70-61. Minot State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring four of its 14 total points.
