MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State men's wrestling team opened the 2021 NSIC dual season with a loss to Minnesota State on Thursday night at the MSU Dome.
The Beavers fall to 0-1 on the season while Minnesota State improved to 1-0 after the season-opening dual. MSU will hit the road for its next dual within the NSIC against one of the top grappling programs in the country, No. 1 St. Cloud on Jan. 14.
NCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll No. 8 heavyweight,
Jordan Will, won by a 3-1 decision over Mankato's David Griffet to close his first match of the season with a victory.
The Beavers found themselves down 18-0 through four matches against the Mavericks when
Nathan Baca (157 lb.) broke through with a 3-1 sudden victory over Cooper Siebrecht to get MSU on the board.
Back-to-back matches did not go the Beavers' way but
Keegan Berry (184 lb.) recorded a win by fall over Dylan Butts to give the Beavers nine points in the dual.
Will (285 lb.) added three points with a 3-1 win by decision in the concluding match and the result went final 31-12 in favor of the Mavericks.
