ST. CLOUD, MN --Led by a 61.5 percent shooting effort from deep, the Minot State University men's basketball team defeated the Harding Bison 103-89 at Halenbeck Hall Friday.
The Beavers (1-0) had six players score in double figures, led by Cam'ron Dunfee, who had 27 points and four steals. Melvin Newbern tacked on a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Max Cody chipped in as well with a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists. Cody tied the single-game school record for assists matching a high of 13 assists he set on Dec. 15, 2018, and that Nathan Metens achieved on Feb. 1, 2017
The Minot State offense was impressive from deep, pouring in 16 threes on 26 attempts. Dunfee hit seven treys for the Beavers in the contest. Dunfee finished 7-of-8 from 3-point range, setting a new single-game school record by hitting .875 percent of his 3s and breaking the previous best 3-point shooting percentage of .857 (6-of-7) by Michael Pelo on Feb. 13, 2016.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 27-20 advantage, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 7:07 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Dunfee, to increase its lead to 35-20. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 45-34 advantage. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down seven shots to account for 21 of its 45 points.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Dunfee's three, to grow the lead to 69-50 with 13:13 to go in the contest. The Bison narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 103-89 win. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 58 points.
