MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team shot 57.9 percent from three-point range on the way to a 99-76 victory over the Dickinson State Bluehawks at home Tuesday.

The Beavers (3-0) had five players score in double figures, led by Melvin Newbern, who had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Cam'ron Dunfee added 19 points and two steals and Eli Cave chipped in as well with 14 points and two steals from the bench.

Minot State utilized excellent ball movement in Tuesday's game, piling up 20 assists on 36 made field goals. Individually, Max Cody lent a helping hand the most for the Beavers with seven assists.

Minot State forced 14 Dickinson State turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 24 points on the other end of the floor. Dunfee's two steals led the way for Minot State.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 36-27 advantage, Minot State went on an 11-0 run with 5:28 left in the first half to increase its lead to 47-27. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 51-38 advantage. Minot State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 15 of its 51 total points.

Minot State started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Newbern's layup, to grow the lead to 62-38 with 16:35 to go in the contest. The Bluehawks narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 99-76 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 48 points in the lane.
