Dwyer perfect from the field in Minot State's 86-74 victory against Valley City State

MINOT, N.D. -- Kody Dwyer went a perfect 10-for-10 on the way to scoring 20, tying a school record, and the Minot State men's basketball team beat the Valley City State Vikings 86-74 at the MSU DOme on Monday.

The Beavers (6-1 overall, 0-1 NSIC) had four players score in double figures, led by Melvin Newbern, who notched a double-double with 28 points and 15 rebounds. Dwyer added 20 points and Camron Dunfee chipped in as well with 13 points and six rebounds.

Minot State shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 21 assists on 33 made field goals. Max Cody's 14 assists led the Beavers and broke the NCAA Division II school record for assists in a single game of 13. Cody shared the previous record with Nathan Metens (2017).

Dwyer's 100-percent field-goal percentage record tied the previous mark of 9-for-9 shooting by Shaun Johnson on Feb. 19, 2010. 

How It Happened

After falling behind 22-16, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 10:04 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Jaxon Gunville, to take a 23-22 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-34.

After intermission, Minot State came back to even it up at 64-64 before going on a 5-0 run to seize a 69-64 lead with 7:09 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 86-74 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 38 of its 52 points in the lane.
