Minot State falls 71-50 to Saint Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, MN --The Minot State women's basketball team got a 16-point performance from the bench, but fell 71-50 to the Saint Cloud State Huskies on the road Saturday.

Anna Counts led the Beavers (4-8, 2-3) with eight points and 12 rebounds. Kate Head also added nine points and two steals and Amber Stevahn chipped in as well with 10 points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 12-2, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 5:28 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Natasha Elliott, to narrow its deficit to 12-8. The Beavers deficit remained the same as they entered the second quarter trailing 17-13.

The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 33-25 halftime deficit.

Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 53-34 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.

Saint Cloud State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 63-38 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Janie Wunderlich's three, to shrink the deficit to 63-45 with 5:03 to go in the contest. Saint Cloud State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 71-50. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
