MINOT, ND --Melvin Newbern and Max Cody each recorded double-doubles to help lead the Minot State men's basketball team past the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles 88-83 at home Friday.
The Beavers (9-3, 3-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Newbern, who put together a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kody Dwyer tacked on 18 points and seven rebounds and Camron Dunfee helped out with 13 points.

How It Happened
After falling behind 3-2, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 18:29 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dwyer, to take an 8-3 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 51-46.
After intermission, Minot State managed to gain control and had an 82-81 lead before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 88-81 with seven seconds to go in the contest. The Golden Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still held on for the 88-83 win. Minot State capitalized on six Minnesota-Crookston turnovers in the period, collecting 11 points off those turnovers.
