MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State women's basketball team kept Mary to just 16.7 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-18 shooting performance, but fell 68-64 to the Marauders at home Friday.

The Beavers (4-9, 4-7) had three players score in double figures, led by
Amber Stevahn, who had 17 points and six assists.
Anna Counts added 12 points and three blocks and
Mollie Wilson helped out with 10 points off the bench.

Minot State collected 40 rebounds in Friday's game compared to Mary's 31, led by
Kate Head's 10 boards. The Beavers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 10 rebounds into 10 second chance points.

Minot State's defense held Mary to only 16.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Marauders did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with six offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points while Minot State cleared 30 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened
Minot State kept it close in the first quarter but entered the second frame down 18-14.

Mary kept adding to that lead, building a 33-28 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Stevahn, to take a 34-33 lead. The Marauders then came roaring back to take a 40-36 lead heading into halftime.

Mary continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 44-36 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from
Lucy Chapman, to trim its deficit to 44-42 with 6:44 to go in the third. Mary countered and stretched its lead to 55-52 heading into the fourth. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 16 points in the paint.

Mary kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 67-56 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Head's layup, to shrink the deficit to 67-62 with eight seconds to go in the contest. The Beavers kept their comeback going, but Mary managed to hold on for the 68-64 win. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
