MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minot State University women's track and field team had a banner day at the NSIC Championships at Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday.
The Beavers track and field teams continue to soar to new heights with DII era and school records falling all over the track at the NSIC Championships this weekend. Some of the accomplishments for the women's track and field team include the following:
- Most Team Pts and Highest Team Finish in 5 years
- 5 All-Conference Honors
- 2 All-Time Records
Head Coach
Mark Del Monaco spoke about the performances of both the men's and women's track and field teams in the NSIC Championships this weekend. "What a fantastic weekend for both squads. By far the most successful conference championships combined men and women.
Our men battled all day for each other. It just seemed like one podium finish after another and they each fed off that positive energy when it came time for them to step onto the track. Whether it was Chase Tandy or our men's DMR, those men did Minot State University and Minot State Track & Field proud this weekend.
We had to have one of the smallest women's squads at the conference championships but that did not deter our women from sticking their noses in every race and giving themselves a chance to put some points on the board.
Whitney Hanson ran a fantastic well-executed race. We'll wait to see if this time gets her into the NCAA Championships. The women's DMR just put a cherry on the weekend. Halfway through I thought I was dreaming that we had a chance to win! Each of those women stepped up and ran for each other they knocked it out of the park.
Proud of all our student-athletes. It was a great day to be a Beaver!"
In the Women's DMR, the team of
Whitney Hanson,
Ashley Miller,
Abby McGee,
Linda Perez posted a time of 12:12.87 to break the school record and earn All-NSIC Honors with a 2nd-place finish. This team has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships and are ranked 26th in the nation in the DMR.
Hanson finished 3rd in the 800m in 2:14.36 to earn in All-NSIC Conference honors. Hanson also lowers her NCAA qualifying time in the 800m and breaks her school record.
