FAYETTE, IOWA -- Minot State baseball (6-3) limited the Upper Iowa Peacock (3-5) to two runs on Thursday, and the Beavers' lineup did the rest, pushing just enough runners across to pick up the 3-2 victory.
Junior
Zach Newman (1-1) got the win for Minot State (6-3, 4-0). The southpaw went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.
Offensively, the Beavers were paced by junior
Jordan Williams, who continued his strong start to the year by going 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Junior
Declan Buckle came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
MSU then held the Peacocks scoreless before expanding their lead in the fifth inning. Minot State picked up a run on Williams' leadoff home run off of Keaton Parker, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Beavers.
Minot State kept Upper Iowa without a run before extending their lead to 3-0 the following inning. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Williams. Upper Iowa put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State held firm for the 3-2 win.
