SPEARFISH, S.D. -- The Minot State University track and field team was in action at the Black Hills State University Spring Open to open spring competition over the last two days.
The Beavers are coming off of the most successful indoor campaign in program history earning 10 All-NSIC Honors at the Indoor Championships.
Men's Track and Field Results
MSU earned a win in the 4x400m with a time of 43.04 as the team of
Chase Doty,
Joseph Green,
Nathan Trujillo-Aragon, and
Chase Tandy clinched the victory by beating MSU-Billings to the finish line by .24.
Lewis Cotterill continues to impress on the track as he wins the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.09.
Two Beavers earned the podium in the javelin with
Leif Nelson finishing 2nd with a throw of 57.03m and
Ben Aasen placing 3rd with a launch of 56.67m.
Chase Tandy earned a podium finish for the second time during the competition. This time in the 200m dash, he finished in 3rd place with a time of 22.25.
Green earned a 5th-place finish in the 500m with a time of 52.43.
Juan Gutierrez placed 7th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:39.32,
Marco Murillo finished 10th with a time of 4:48.00, and
Christian Bird Hat placed 13th after posting a time of 5:21.34.
After the hammer throw being postponed due to bad weather yesterday evening,
Logan Krueger earned a podium finish in the men's hammer throw with the 3rd farthest throw in the NCAA DII era in program history (51.80m).
Corbin Harris finished 9th in the same event with a throw of 43.55m (No. 6 DII era) and
Samuel Kreins placed 13th in the event with a throw of 38.67m (No. 9 DII era).
Harris also finished 7th in the shot put with a throw of 13.72 meters.
Trujillio-Aragon placed 2nd in the men's 110-meter hurdles to earn another podium finish his second of the day with a time of 15.35. His time was also a program record.
In the men's 400m dash,
Vincente Guereca placed 14th with a time of 56.63.
Women's Track and Field Results
In the women's 1500 meter run,
Abby McGee earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish after recording a time of 5:07.43.
Caitlin Cornell finished right behind McGee in 4th place with a time of 5:10.99,
Lauren Reeves posted a 7th-place finish with a 5:21.70 marking,
Elizabeth Holzer placed 12th with a time of 5:30.36, and
Monica Okopal placed 18th with a time of 5:46.21.
Ashley Miller finished 6th in the women's 200 meters with a time of 26.79.
Emily Hansen finished 10th in the women's 800m with a time of 2:37.23.
Tori Nygard placed 8th in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 44.18m (No. 3 DII era).
Samantha Brunelle finished 13th with a throw of 37.63m (No. 8 DII era) and
Chloe Gunderson placed 20th with a toss of 33.59m (No. 10 DII era).
In the women's long jump,
Grace Loftus posted a distance of 3.4m to finish 14th.
On the women's side in the 100-meter dash,
Fadzai Madavo finished 15th with a time of 14.55.
Gunderson finished 15th in the women's discus with a hurl of 26.59 meters. Nygard finished 4th in the women's javelin with a throw of 113'4".
The Beavers are back in action at the University of South Dakota on Apr. 3.
