LAKE CITY, M.N.- The Minot State women's golf team finished day one of the Watkins Invitational strong, with Anya Ross leading the team as they compete in Lake City. The Beavers currently sit in third place, with host school Winona State in first and trailing close behind Upper Iowa. Minot State men's golf team finds itself in ninth position after opening day of the tournament at the Jewel Golf Club.

All four of the Beavers women's golf team were consistent on Monday, as the team shot a 47-over 335 on the par-72, 5903-yard course. They hold are comfortable 6-shot lead over the fourth-place competition. Tournament leader, Winona State, shot a 22-over 310 with an 8-shot lead over Upper Iowa.

On the men's side, the Beavers finished the first day of the tournament strong, as the team shot a 25-over 313 on the par-72, 6902-yard course in Minnesota. Minot State narrowly trails Bemidji State as they are two shots back. The Beavers are currently tied with Lincoln University after play on Monday.

Play will resume Tuesday morning with a shot-gun start at 10 a.m. as the men and women compete for the title in the final round of the Watkins Invitational.

The Beaver women's golf team was led by Anya Ross as she shot an 8-over 80 and is currently tied for fifth place overall. Holly Knudson trails by three strokes and carded an 11-over 83 as she is tied for 10^th. Taylor Cormier shot a 12-over 84 and trails Knudsen by one shot. Jaci Jones rounded out the Beavers' scores as she shot a 16-over 88 and is 21st.

On the men's side, Minot State was led by Carlos Caloca who shot a 4-over 76 as he is tied for 21^st, with Sid Ullyott trailing by two strokes as he shot a 6-over 78 and is tied for 33^rd. Andrew Makarchuk shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 41^st overall.
