TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Minot State volleyball team opened the season with a thriller, battling Cameron and rallying from two sets down to force a fifth set before falling 3-2 (25-13, 26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 15-3) at the Washburn Invitational presented by Hotel Topeka at City Center.
The non-conference loss moved Minot State to 0-1 on the season.
The Beavers offense was paced by Alexandra Koontz, who finished with 20 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .349, and by Roxy King, who had 12 kills while hitting .25.Jenna Pahlen also pitched in with five kills in the contest. Minot State got 12 digs from Tea Boeckel to lead the Beavers defensively.

SET 3 | Minot State fought back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. Impressive serving helped the Beavers win the set 25-20. Minot State recorded six aces in the win.
SET 4 | Minot State continued their comeback, winning the fourth set 25-21 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. A solid showing on the attacking side led the Beavers to victory in the set. Minot State registered a .441 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win.
SET 5 | Minot State lost the first two sets, but rallied to even it at 2-2 before falling 15-3 in the final set.
