MINOT, ND --Five Beavers put up double-digit points and Minot State beat the Minnesota State Mavericks 97-69 at home Friday.
The Beavers (11-4, 5-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Max Cody, who had 18 points and six assists. Cam'ron Dunfee added 17 points and two steals and Melvin Newbern helped out with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Eduardo Fiorotto pulled down two offensive rebounds to pace the Minot State offense which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into 10 second chance points.
Minot State forced 13 Minnesota State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Friday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Dunfee's two steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 35-25 advantage, Minot State went on an 11-0 run with 5:26 left in the first half to increase its lead to 46-25. The Beavers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 53-32 advantage. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 36 of its 53 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 73-50 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Jaxon Gunville's three, to grow the lead to 80-50 with 10:05 to go in the contest. The Mavericks narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 97-69 win. Minot State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 44 total points.
