BISMARCK, N.D. -- Max Cody scored 21 points and Melvin Newbern added 20, but the Minot State men's basketball team fell to the Mary Marauders for the second time this season, dropping a 80-78 NSIC contest on the road Sunday.
The Beavers (10-4, 4-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Cody, who had 21 points, four assists and two steals. Newbern tacked on 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals, and Jaxon Gunville helped out with 11 points off of the bench.
Newbern pulled down six offensive rebounds to lead the Minot State offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 15 second-chance points.
Minot State forced 14 Mary turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Sunday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Camron Dunfee's four steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After playing to a 15-15 tie, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 11:21 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Gunville, to take a 22-15 lead. Mary then responded to tie things up at 40-40 heading into halftime. Minot State got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 22 of its 40 points close to the basket.
Mary then snagged a 79-71 advantage before Minot State responded by going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Newbern's layup, to shrink the deficit to 79-78 with 1:12 to go in the contest, but could not complete the comeback
