MINOT, N.D. --Â The Minot State men's basketball team got a 40-point performance from the bench on the way to an 84-56 win against the Presentation Saints at home Thursday in the Beavers non-conference, season-opener.
The Beavers (1-0 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Khari Broadway, who had 16 points. Calvin Sisk added 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks off of the bench and Jaxon Gunville helped out with 13 points and four assists.
"I feel like, really we just played together," Broadway said. "When things went wrong we came back and realized what we came here to do, we came here to win."
Minot State utilized excellent ball movement in Thursday's game, piling up 15 assists on 34 made field goals. Gunville's four assists paced the Beavers.
Minot State did a great job disrupting Presentation shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Sisk's three rejections led the way individually for the Beavers.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 30-24 advantage, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 2:06 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Michael Jok, to increase its lead to 37-24. The Beavers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 40-27 advantage. Minot State got a great contribution from its bench in the period as non-starters accounted for 22 of its 40 total points.
Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 56-41 before going on a 13-0 run, finished off by Broadway's three, to grow the lead to 69-41 with 7:41 to go in the contest. The Beavers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 84-56 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 44 points in the lane.
